Stewardship Activity: Instream water donation from vines to fish using Section 1707

Balancing the water needs of agriculture and wildlife is  challenging.  Beckstoffer Vineyards of Mendocino County is trying to maintain that balance by tapping Section 1707 of the California State Water Code to modify their existing operations in a manner that is beneficial to their business, the environment and public trust resources.

The North Bay Business Journal details how Beckstoffer is working with the State Water Resources Control Board to donate instream water flows during critical salmon spawning periods in exchange for the ability to fill off stream frost protection and irrigation ponds during the wet season.
